Preparing
Your Home for Vacation
The holidays often mean vacationing for a lot
of American families. Whether it’s going south for warm weather or vacationing
for a week in a cabin somewhere across the country, there’s one thing that’s
certain: vacationing is a great idea in order to get away from reality and just
relax for a week or so.

If you happen to be traveling this year and won’t
be home for a decent amount of time, it’s important to make sure your home is
all in order and functioning before you leave. Creating a checklist of
activities you can do before leaving can save you a ton of time as your
vacation approaches. Because of the need to have everything ready, I’ve gone
ahead and put together some of the most helpful and important ideas to save you
more time. Let’s chat about how you can feel safe leaving your home for a week
or more over the holidays!
Put
your lights on a cycle.
Assuming you have the capability of doing
this, it’s worth maintaining a “presence” in your home while you’re away in
order to ward off any would-be miscreants. Even if it’s just your Christmas
lights that are on a timer like a lot of homes use, you’ll at least be creating
the sense that someone is home within your house. Thanks to technology
nowadays, you can control some of these things from your phone despite being
thousands of miles away.
Pick up
the place.
This means outside and inside so that you come home to a clean house and yard. We
suggest having your partner and kids to grab a few cheap moving boxes and walk
around picking up loose odds and ends that don’t need to be laying around. If
you have certain family members target certain items or rooms in the house
while carrying around their cheap moving boxes, your home will be clean and
picked up in no time!
Clean
your bathroom and make your bed.
Yes, we realize this sounds silly considering
you won’t be using either while you’re on vacation. But guess what the number
one thing you’ll miss is while you’re away? It’s your bed. And when you get
home, you’re going to want to do nothing but lounge around and cuddle up in
your bed. So, having it clean and nice and neatly made for when you return is a
little gift to future you.
